Despite the fact that concrete is used in almost every construction: from small private buildings to huge industrial reinforced concrete structures, concrete can crack, crumble, shrink, etc. Therefore, any concrete structure needs proper care.
If it so happens that cracks appear on the concrete surface, then there are special mixtures that will help eliminate them. We will tell you how to do this correctly in our article.
Step 1: choosing a material for repairing a concrete floor
The selection of material is an important stage in the repair of a concrete floor, because many details need to be taken into account, namely, the features of the floor’s operation. For example, is this a residential or industrial space, what load should the surface withstand, etc. It is also important to measure the parameters of cracks in a concrete floor, because the size of the granules in the material, its minimum and maximum application thickness are different. And it is unlikely that a material with a minimum application thickness of 10 mm will withstand the load and not crack when poured with 3 mm or less.
Here's an example:
Teknogrout EX repair mortar is suitable for filling cracks from 10 mm to 60 mm thick. The size of the material granules is up to 3 mm.
Step 2: preparing the surface for repair work
First of all, it is necessary to remove all broken concrete particles using a hammer or angle. Then you should clean the floor from any solutions, dirt, dust, grease and remnants of old material. The surface must be hard and clean. And before applying the material, the concrete should be slightly moistened.
Step 3: preparing the material for floor repair
The volume of water required for mixing the material is always written on the packaging. For example, for one 25 kg bag of Teknogrout EX you need to take 3.5-4 liters of water. An important point is that you first need to pour water into the container, and then pour out the dry powder from the bag.
Not the other way around! Then you should mix the mixture with a special mixer for 1 minute and start applying.
Step 4: Concrete Floor Repair
The mixture should be poured evenly on one side, preventing the formation of voids. The mixture hardens on average 2 hours after application, so you need to work with the material quickly enough - within 5-10 minutes after it has been mixed.
The permissible temperature of the material is from +5 to +35 degrees. It can affect the rate of hardening of the mixture.
