What to choose: plaster or stretch ceiling?

Almost every person faces the problem of choosing ceiling materials at least once in their life when planning repairs. After all, one master may advise to apply plaster to the ceiling, and the other says not to waste time on it, but simply hire a team that will make a smooth ceiling throughout the apartment in half a day.

But why, having such a fast way of decorating ceilings, plaster is still a very popular material?

What is better plaster or stretch ceiling?

Let's look at the pros and cons of ways to decorate ceiling surfaces with plaster and PVC.

Of the advantages of plaster, you can distinguish:

  • Environmental friendliness of the material.
This is one of the most important moments, because a person spends about half of the time of his life at home. Plaster does not cause allergies, does not harm health, as it does not emit odors and harmful fumes.
  • Does not reduce the height of the room.
The thickness of the plaster application on the ceiling surfaces varies from 5 mm to 15 mm, depending on the manufacturer and the number of layers.
  • Fits perfectly into the design.
Plastered surfaces can be left as white or painted in any other color.

The disadvantages of plaster are:

  • Working hours.
It is impossible to proceed to the next stage of work until the previous layer of plaster is completely dry, as this can lead to cracking.
  • The cost of the work.
The cost of plastering ceiling surfaces is much higher, unlike others, since this process is more complex and time-consuming.
  • Service life.
Since plaster is a natural material, ceilings need to be refreshed from time to time, because small cracks or stains may appear.

Of the advantages of using a stretch ceiling:

  • The speed of work.
It is possible to make a stretch ceiling in one room in a maximum of 2 hours.
  • Durability.
When using high-quality materials, stretch ceilings can not be changed for several decades.
  • Easy to care for.
The stretch ceiling can be washed with a regular cloth.

Among the disadvantages of a stretch ceiling are:

  • Reduces the height of the room.
About 5 cm (or even more) will be spent on the design of the ceiling. When installing a stretch ceiling in new buildings, this is very noticeable.
  • There may be an unpleasant smell after working with a stretch ceiling from 1 day to 1 week, depending on the quality of the material.
  • Sensitivity to punctures.
It is necessary to wash the stretch ceiling very carefully, change the lamps and so on, since when the ceiling is punctured, it will have to be replaced completely.

Taking into account all the pros and cons, we conclude that when choosing finishing materials for the ceiling for yourself, it is better to pay attention to environmental friendliness, despite the fact that it will take a little more time to repair, and if necessary, quickly finish the repair, for example, for delivery – a full–length ceiling will be an excellent option.
