In such cases, for some reason, waterproofing is neglected, since they do not always know about its real need. Today we will tell you about the waterproofing tape, the use of which is definitely not worth neglecting.
What is a waterproofing tape and what task does it perform during waterproofing?
Waterproofing tape – adhesive tape is designed to seal various types of seams. Coating waterproofing materials may not fully cope with the task in such difficult places, so the tape is considered an indispensable material when performing waterproofing works.
In addition to seams, the tape can also be used to eliminate cracks (up to about 7 mm thick). It is through small cracks that water can penetrate into the structure and begin to destroy it.
Waterproofing tape will perform the following tasks:
- Increasing the service life of the premises;
- Additional protection of the room from moisture penetration and, as a result, prevention of mold or mildew formation.
What characteristics should a high-quality waterproofing tape have?
First of all, the waterproofing tape must have a high strength on:
- gap;
- hit;
- bend.
Also, the material must reliably adhere to the concrete surface, which was covered with the first layer of coating waterproofing, respectively, the high adhesion of the tape is the second very important characteristic.
Ideally, the tape should have good resistance not only to moisture, but also to many chemicals.

What are the types of waterproofing tape and what is the structure of the material?
First of all, waterproofing tape is a multilayer material that consists of:
- the basics of the tape, which is responsible for the quality of waterproofing and gluing to the surface;
- the film edge layer.
Depending on the type of the main constituent material, it can be polyester, polymer, and bitumen. The first two types are intended for internal use, and the third is for external use. Polyester and polymer tapes are not recommended to be used outside, as they are not frost-resistant.
