Laying linoleum without using glue is possible, but it is very impractical, since over time it can move, rise or just start to wrap, which will lead to rapid wear of the coating. And the method of fixing linoleum on nails or with the help of baseboards has long been a thing of the past, because now every master uses a simple and reliable technology of laying linoleum – laying on glue.
Naturally, the choice of high-quality adhesive composition is no less important than the choice of linoleum. In this article we will tell you what to pay attention to when choosing glue and why.
Is it possible to glue linoleum with PVA glue?
PVA glue is considered a universal adhesive composition, but a highly qualified master will never recommend gluing linoleum on it. This is due to the fact that PVA glue is inelastic, and we all know that when laying finishing coatings larger than 30 cm, the adhesive composition must be super elastic. This point should be taken into account when laying tiles, laminate, linoleum or any other finishing coatings so that over time it does not begin to peel off or crack.
Today in the construction market there is a huge selection of adhesive compositions on acrylic, polyurethane and other bases that cope with gluing linoleum to the surface much better than conventional PVA glue.
What kind of glue to choose from hundreds of options offered by dozens of manufacturers? Let's tell you now.
Which glue is better to use for linoleum?
The best type of glue for linoleum is considered to be acrylic-based glue. We advise you to pay attention to the Turkish-made Teknobond 250 material. The composition is specially designed for laying linoleum, PVC floor coverings, as well as rubber or rubber coatings on a concrete surface. The adhesive is suitable for working with textile coatings on both natural and synthetic substrates.
The material begins to set 20 minutes after application, and commissioning is possible within 24 hours after laying linoleum or other flooring. The consumption of Teknobond 250 acrylic glue varies from 300 to 350 g/m2, and the shelf life is one year from the date of production.
The adhesive is elastic, durable and has high adhesion to the base, therefore, with properly performed work on laying finishing materials, your flooring will last you for decades.
How to glue linoleum on glue?
Working with high–quality glue for linoleum Teknobond 250 is a pleasure, as it is convenient to use, and also has a fairly long open time (about 45 minutes). The ideal temperature range for gluing linoleum is considered to be from 18 °C to 25 °C.
Before laying the finishing floor covering, it is recommended to prime the surface with a Teknolatex 200 primer to enhance adhesion. After surface preparation, the adhesive is applied to the concrete base with a notched trowel. The material consumption will vary depending on the size of the teeth of the spatula. Linoleum should be laid 2-3 minutes after the application of the adhesive composition (during this time, an adhesive film is formed).
That's all. After 3-4 days, your surface with linoleum will be ready for use.
