Road markings are a very important element in the correct organization of traffic. And it, in turn, depends on the correct selection of the material and its quality. Therefore, our article is intended to briefly describe the features of paints for road markings.
Stages of applying paint for road markings
First of all, it is necessary to make sure that the paint lies in a uniform even layer without lumps and other possible irregularities.
To do this, firstly, we clean the surface from all kinds of substances that can reduce the level of adhesion, including oils, rust, dirt, etc. Secondly, it is necessary to pre-seal all splinters, cracks and voids with a repair compound, for example, Teknogrout EX.
Next, after opening the can of paint, mix it thoroughly and proceed to application. The material is applied both in 1 layer and in 2 using a special device designed to create road markings.
There is usually a solvent in the composition of such paints, therefore, if necessary, the material can be additionally diluted with them, adding no more than 8% of the total mass of the paint.
Depending on the chosen paint, the setting time of the 1st layer also differs. For example, using Teknobond 960, the layer is grasped in an average of 15 minutes. This time should be known if it is necessary to apply a second coat of paint. Also important information is the time after which the material becomes resistant to dust. For example, the dust will stop sticking to the Teknobond 960 paint after 40 minutes after application, which is very fast and convenient. And the paint dries completely within 3.5 hours.
Recommendations for applying paints for road markings
- Paints for road markings should be applied at a temperature not lower than 5 °C and not higher than 35 °C.
- Do not apply the paint after the expiration of the life of the material (we count immediately after opening the package).
- Do not apply paint in the rain.
- Do not add water to the paint bucket.
- Make sure that the material does not penetrate into the drains.
- Protect the paint until it dries completely from adverse weather conditions, such as wind, rain, sun, etc.
