Repair of the old bowl of the concrete pool: elimination of leaks

Today, many people have swimming pools, and developers continue to surprise us with a variety of their types: from small inflatable pools for children to chic expensive glass pools. But as many years ago, so now most people leave their choice on a concrete pool. After all, this type of swimming pools is considered durable, wear-resistant and at the same time quite beautiful, because you can decorate it as your heart desires. But from time to time, the owners of concrete bowls may face such a problem as water leakage. This may happen due to improper filling or waterproofing of the concrete bowl initially, due to the old age of the pool or due to mechanical damage. Let's figure out what to do if you notice that the water is gradually leaving the pool.

What to do when the water leaves the pool

First we find the cause of the leak. Start by inspecting all valves, valves, skimmers, etc. If everything is in order, all the elements are serviceable and perform their functions perfectly, then observe how quickly the water leaves the concrete bowl. If during the day the water became less plus or minus 1-2 cm, then this may be a problem with waterproofing, namely, small cracks appeared on the waterproofing, which began to leak water. Here you will have to completely update the waterproofing layer. Unfortunately, this process is quite long and costly.

By the way, in the hot season, the water from the pool can simply evaporate, so do not rush to sound the alarm. If the water goes away almost before our eyes, then most likely a leak has formed in the basin of the pool. You can determine the location of the leak using a pump: first, monitor the water level when the pump is turned on, and then - when it is turned off. If the water goes out when the pump is turned off, then the problem is on the concrete base of the pool. Inspect the entire surface and seal the leak. If you can't find the place of the leak, then follow one of the 2 recommendations:

  • use a special red paint, which, once in a place with a leak, will mark it;
  • drain the water from the pool, take the soap and spread it with a sponge in the area of the base, where it is assumed there may be a leak. At this point it will start bubbling.

After the search for the leak has been successful, we proceed to eliminate it.

How to eliminate a leak in a concrete pool

To eliminate the leak, you will need a special repair compound - a hydraulic seal. Among the large selection of materials, we draw your attention to the hydraulic seal of the Turkish manufacturer Tekno - Teknoplug.

The Teknoplug material should be mixed in a small amount with water in the proportion of 270 ml per 1 kg of dry powder to a plastic state. The material seizes in 1-2 minutes upon contact with water, so you need to work very quickly: mixed the material, molded something like a mushroom, put the material into the hole and held your hand for about a minute until the leak completely stopped. That's all. The leak has been eliminated.

For the best effect, it is recommended to treat the area with penetrating waterproofing, for example, Teknomer 100.
