Industrial floor painting: reliable protection of concrete in conditions of high humidity and intense loads YouTube

Painting an industrial floor is not just about changing the color of the surface. First of all, it is a comprehensive protection of concrete from moisture, intense mechanical stress, the effects of detergents and aggressive chemicals.

In this article, we will take a detailed look at the application and application technology of water-based vapor-permeable epoxy paint Teknobond 620, which is suitable for food enterprises and premises with high humidity levels.

What paint to choose for concrete floors in wet rooms?

Concrete is a mineral material with a porous capillary structure. It constantly interacts with moisture: it accumulates and releases it depending on temperature, humidity, and operating conditions.

Even after full strength gain (28 days), excess moisture of more than 4% may remain in the concrete. Additionally, moisture may rise from the soil through capillaries and gradually migrate to the surface. This is what often causes swelling and delamination of coatings.

Why is the vapor permeability of a coating important?

Teknobond 620 epoxy paint is a universal vapor-permeable ("breathable") coating that allows moisture to escape from the structure to the outside without accumulating under the paint layer.

The material is used for floors, walls, ceilings and facades. It prevents the appearance of mold, peeling of the coating and premature destruction of the concrete base. Due to the ability to pass water vapor, the epoxy coating maintains its integrity even on bases with residual moisture, which is critically important for industrial and commercial facilities.

If the finishing layer is not vapor-permeable, this can lead to:

✔ peeling from the base
✔ blistering and swelling
✔ cracks
✔ gradual destruction of concrete
✔ reduced service life of the surface

That is why humid and industrial premises require the use of vapor-permeable epoxy paints.

Features of epoxy vapor-permeable paints

Teknobond 620 is a professional, solvent-free, two-component, water-based epoxy paint that combines high mechanical strength and water vapor permeability.

Thanks to the water-based material:

  • does not have a pungent odor

  • safer for working in enclosed spaces

  • provides reliable adhesion to the surface even in case of excessive humidity

As a result of using the vapor-permeable Teknobond 620 paint , you get a durable coating that is resistant to loads and without the risk of premature peeling.

Main advantages:

✔ odorless
✔ vapor-permeable
✔ waterproof
✔ resistant to chemicals and bacteria
✔ frost-resistant
✔ wear-resistant

Where is vapor-permeable epoxy paint used?

Epoxy vapor-permeable coatings are used in places with high humidity and high requirements for wear resistance and hygiene:

✔ production workshops and warehouses
✔ parking lots and garages
✔ restaurants, kitchens, food production facilities
✔ medical institutions and laboratories
✔ shopping centers and public spaces
✔ schools, gyms, corridors
✔ private houses and apartments
✔ rooms with high humidity

We have prepared a video review of the vapor-permeable epoxy paint Teknobond 620 at the facility. The restaurant floor was painted in light gray RAL 7001.

How to properly apply epoxy vapor permeable paint

1. Preparing the base

High-quality preparation is the key to the durability of the coating in conditions of intensive use and humidity.

Before applying paint, you must:

To improve adhesion and durability of the coating, it is recommended to use the vapor-permeable epoxy primer  Teknobond 120  - a two-component water-based primer specially designed for preparing concrete substrates before

applying epoxy paints. Its formula penetrates deep into the pores of the concrete, creating a strong bonding layer between the base and the finish coating.

Due to its water base, the material does not block the escape of residual moisture from the structure, which is especially important for new or wet concrete.

The primer performs several key functions at once:

  • strengthens the foundation

  • reduces absorption

  • increases grip

  • reduces paint consumption

The use of primer allows you to obtain a uniform, homogeneous coating without local paint "failures", stains or areas with increased absorption. As a result, the system works comprehensively: the base is stabilized, the finishing layer lies evenly, and the service life of the floor is significantly increased even under conditions of intense mechanical loads.

2. Mixing two-component epoxy paint

The paint consists of two components, which are required:

  • mix each thoroughly separately in the manufacturer's container
  • mix component A and B together, use a low-speed mixer with a special nozzle for epoxy paints

The working life of the mixture is 40 minutes. Therefore, we will mix the amount of paint according to the proportion that we can apply in the given time period.

3. Applying epoxy vapor permeable paint

Application is performed after complete preparation of the base and mixing of the components.

Application methods:

✔ Roller — the main method. Use a velor or polyamide roller with a pile of 8–12 mm. The material is distributed crisscross, maintaining a “wet edge” to avoid visible joints.

✔ Brush — for corners, joints, columns, pipes, and other hard-to-reach areas. Rub the paint thoroughly for better adhesion.

It is important not to exceed the recommended layer thickness and not to go back to dried areas.

Drying time - 24 hours.
Full hardening - after 3 days.

After full strength gain:

  • adhesion to concrete — 4 MPa

  • adhesion to metal — 3 MPa

The wear resistance of Teknobond 620 has been laboratory-confirmed. According to the Taber test with CS-10 abrasive wheels, after 1000 rotation cycles, the mass loss is only 60–70 mg. This means minimal abrasion even with intensive movement of personnel, carts, equipment and regular floor cleaning.

According to the DIN 53109 standard , such indicators belong to the premium class of epoxy coatings with increased mechanical resistance.

Where are vapor-permeable epoxy paints used?

✔ restaurants — where wear resistance and ease of cleaning are important
✔ warehouses and food production — with constant loads
✔ laboratories — with requirements for chemical resistance

✔ cold rooms — with temperature changes and condensation
✔ humid rooms — where it is necessary to avoid delamination

Painting an industrial floor is a technological process that requires proper preparation of the base, the use of a high-quality primer, and professional epoxy paint.

If strength, moisture resistance, vapor permeability, chemical resistance, and durability are important for the object, the Teknobond 120 primer system + Teknobond 620 vapor-permeable epoxy paint will be a professional solution.
