Concrete staircase repair

Reinforced concrete stairs are used both in high-rise buildings and in private houses. Despite their popularity, ease of construction and use, they also have disadvantages such as a tendency to crack or chip at the corners. The reasons may be either natural aging of the concrete surface or chemical or mechanical damage. Read this article to find out what to do about it.
What materials are used to repair concrete stairs?
To repair concrete stairs, you need to use cement-based mixtures for vertical and horizontal repairs.
The first is Tekorep 200, the second is Tenogrout EX.
Teknorep 200 is a thin-layer, self-leveling, cement-based material for concrete repair. Ideal for repairing stairs that are covered with small and shallow cracks, because the application layer can be made from 3 mm. Material strength – 25 N/mm2. Dry powder consumption – 1.9 kg/m2.
Teknogrout EX is a non-shrinking repair mixture with high adhesion to concrete (2 N/mm2) and compressive strength (60 N/mm2). Perfect for repairing concrete stairs with larger and deeper cracks (from 10 mm). The material is also used for quick repairs, because commissioning is possible within 2 hours after using the material.
What are the stages involved in repairing a concrete staircase?
Stage 1: surface cleaning
To ensure good adhesion of the concrete staircase and the repair mixture, the surface must be cleaned of dust, dirt, oil and other substances. It is recommended to moisten the surface before applying the repair mixture.
Stage 2: preparation of working solution
In a clean container, add the volume of water indicated on the package, then pour out the dry mixture and mix with a special mixer for several minutes.
Stage 3: application
The repair solution should be evenly distributed on a clean, moistened surface, monitoring the application time.
Stage 4: commissioning
With proper repair work, a concrete staircase will last for decades without the need for repeated repairs. And for this you can also use strengthening mixtures for concrete.
